The Journey Within: A Meditation Practice Day 1

From the moment I awoke this morning, I felt that today was a beautiful day just waiting to be experienced. There were quite a few pleasant surprises that I encountered. 

First, accepting an opportunity to change up the routine I had since created up here in the country and simply took a minor pit stop in helping a friend on my way to work. Prior to committing to this, I went into my heart with an open mind and immediately received my answer in the affirmative.

Next, Stella and I had a peaceful, yet close encounter with a trio of male deer in my neighbors’ yard right across the street from my front yard as we began our morning walk. Stella and I literally stood in the road (so grateful there is low traffic in my neighborhood!) for quite some time being in the present moment with the deer.

As time stood still, we all honored each other as we were in that moment. And then we went along our merry ways. 

After our walk, I of course looked in my animal speak book to review the symbology of deer. I learned that when a deer shows up in your life “it is a time to be gentle with yourself and others as a new innocence and freshness is about to be awakened or born. There is going to be a gentle, enticing lure of new adventures”. 

Wow, what a powerful message to be gifted with bright and early on this gorgeous day!

After a fun “bring your pet to work” day, I gleefully finished my outdoor projects at home with plenty of time to spare prior to the upcoming wet weather. I celebrated with Stella by playing with her outside while she did her “zoomers” style run in the backyard! My patient little cutie! 

You know.. writing this now I strongly feel that she is a wonderful teacher in educating me with developing a good balance between work and play. I find this so lovely since as we embrace our playfulness, we dive into the energy of creation. According to the law of attraction, this is a great component in attracting what we would like to experience moving forward – in addition to being in gratitude of already having what we are inviting and wanting into our midst!

After a great dinner and potting a newly adopted indoor plant, I brought my open mind and heart full of gratitude with me into my meditation practice.

I began by taking three deep breaths in through my nose and exhaling out through my mouth – returning to the natural ebb and flow of my breath once I finished those first three rounds. I brought my focus to my breath and felt the connection as well as effect that simply breathing has throughout the body.

I noticed that my mind did start to wander a bit so I gently moved any incoming thoughts aside.

I did this by imagining my thoughts as the helium in a balloon. Tying the balloon to a string, then tying the string to a weight and holding out the balloon to completely let it go.

This is a technique I learned from a dear friend of mine. And oh my goodness..works like a charm! 

After this visualization technique, I felt my mind begin to still, my body relax further and felt my heart glow. I had the sense that my heart was glowing with the energy and feeling of gratitude. Gratitude that I took this moment to connect within. 

Feeling myself smile, I sensed and felt the image of myself dancing around outside in joy and celebration! I honored this moment, allowing myself to be in this space and celebrate on all levels!

When the time came for me to open my eyes, I batted the eyelashes open and gave gratitude for what I experienced. I glanced over at Stella who was curled up in her pillow bed having her running dream and gently rubbed her ear. When she opened her eyes, she had the cutest smile on her face that absolutely warmed my heart!

What a lovely experience this day has brought! I’m so grateful for the message I received in my  meditation this evening by merely tapping into my heart! I love that carrying the feeling of gratitude in our daily lives can open so many doors and positive opportunities for us!

I look forward to my next meditation experience as well as the gifts tomorrow brings!
