Yoga Challenge for Magical Mornings: Day 3

Yoga Challenge for Magical Mornings: Day 3

You know the feeling when you’re in that delicate state between the comfort of slumber and the inspiration of waking up to greet the new day? Then noticing yourself become aware of your surroundings? It’s such a powerful feeling…this sliding doors moment. Knowing that right then and there I can make the choice in how my day goes just in how I get out of bed.

This morning, I magically woke up without the help of an alarm with plenty of time to spare. Feeling inspired to go outside, I walked out to my deck (followed by Stella) and greeted the morning sky.

Looking at the clear daylight, I was in awe of the brightness and from the major transition we just experienced from the rainstorms.

It was all so symbolic and poetic. No matter what storms pass through (or storms that we pass through), we’ll get through it and emerge on the other side better than ever!

From my deck, I spotted an elongated long dark object that I knew wasn’t there yesterday. At first, it looked to me like a piece of pvc pipe. However, that it was not. What I found was a dark, plastic toy baseball bat (of all things!).

While reflecting on how it got into my backyard, I noticed Stella walking along the grass a few paces from me and finding a place to do her business. This, my friends, is such progress and certainly a good sign!

I’ll back up for a moment.

Stella and I are sensitive to energies (also known as empathic). After moving into the area, it has been challenging for her to feel comfortable and relaxed enough in the backyard to do her business in the morning.

Witnessing this, I had a powerful epiphany! Dogs are mirrors of their pet parents, right? On some level she illustrated to me that I, myself, also felt more comfortable and at ease in my new hometown!

I knew that I loved the feel of this town from the moment I attended the open-house. I realize now that coming from the bigger city, part of me has still been in this integration and acclimation process while settling in my new environment. And today, I feel that I let any remaining subconscious concerns go and fully relaxed into my new groove!

Victory dance time! Cue the chorus from Irene Cara’s song in Flashdance…what a feeling! A magical gift of awareness!

I took this awareness with me as I rolled out my yoga mat, gave Stella a bully stick to work on, and hit play on the morning yoga routine of choice today with gratitude.

In the first few moments of the practice, I noticed a slight heaviness in my heart space while deep belly breathing. It continued to be present during cat-cow and extended child pose (Utthita Balasana). Feeling like stagnant energy that needed help shifting, I made a mental note to work on this after my practice.

While on the mat and physically following suit in the guided video, I caught my mind wandering to far off places. Such as thinking of projects that I wanted to get done today and questioning a choice I recently made regarding my finances. As I’m participating in a practice of yoga and as they say, practice makes perfect (a concept we may visit at another time), I chose to be gentle with myself and brought my focus back to my breath working through the move transitions.

After gently pedaling out my legs in downward dog, I consciously made the choice with my intention to help the heels of my feet touch the Earth. My current version of downward dog is that my heels are still lifted while the rest of me is easily in position. Breathing into it, I made the effort to stretch the backs of my legs just a tiny bit more – inching my way to this goal of mine.

Mark my words, dear friends. I know I can get there and I sure will get there. If not today, then perhaps another. In time, I’ll indeed properly express downward-facing dog pose with both feet flat on the ground. I’m sure that’ll be a happy day! Until then, I’ll keep celebrating the closer I get with each practice!

I felt full body connection and cultivated a little prana heat while transitioning from downward dog into the low lunge (Anjaneyasana) and reaching towards the sky. While in a variation of runner’s lunge (Utthita Ashwa Sanchalanasana), I noticed I was a tad off balance with my posturing. I mindfully brought myself back into alignment and I felt the difference it made!

Continuing with my intention of gentleness today, I chose to find stillness in half-plank (Kumbhakasana) and shimmied my hips on up to downward dog. I found my connection in stillness once again in the last moves of my practice. Bowing my head to my heart, my thumbs meeting my third eye and whispering with gratitude namaste.

Afterwards, I felt guided and made the choice to do a bit of Reiki for myself – which helped significantly. Clearing and realigning what I was feeling in the areas of my crown, throat, heart and root chakras (energy centers). I have practiced Reiki for myself after a yoga practice a few times before and I love that it can move out and clear stagnant energy that was shifted during the yoga practice.

And I’m so glad that I did this – I felt so much lighter! I’m so grateful that the medicine of movement in yoga can go hand-in-hand with the energy healing modality of Reiki!

I feel that how I woke up this morning was a gift for me. Experiencing the sliding door moment and choosing to walk through to greet the day. Having cognized at a deeper level the awareness of the power of choice and what it means for me. And for us all.

No matter what happens around us, we can choose how we react to it. I myself, choose to react with compassion.

This, my friends, is empowerment at its finest.

I find it amazing that something so simple as choice, can empower us!  And feeling empowered, we in turn create beautiful experiences in our day! Creating a beautiful domino effect in those around us as well!

Thank you so much for being here with me. Until next time, peace be with you.
